Lynette Eklund has been involved in the motion picture industry for years and has contributed her talents to film and television, as well as to commercials, amusement parks, theatre and private contractors.
After receiving a degree in fashion design, Eklund went to Hollywood, where she combined her design skills with her childhood love for crafts to transform herself into a monster maker/performer.
Being a student of many forms, Eklund built her reputation around trouble-shooting. It thrills her to turn a 2-dimensional concept into a 3-dimensional creature, especially if it involves unusual considerations such as finessing movement, accommodating mechanics, odd proportions, realistic structure or bizarre anatomy.
Some of her most recent works are the Opossum Paul puppet for a series of Christian videos, Sasquatch for re-enactment footage in a documentary and a robot puppet for an IUPUI commercial spot.
Now, through the convenience of digital photos, Email and Fed Ex, she works from her shop in Indiana near Indianapolis or travels to accommodate projects.
For amusement as much as anything, she and her friends entered a few different professional level competitions this year, where they won many awards together. Some of them include Craftsmanship awards, Recognition awards from the Costumers Guild of Southern California and another for Costumers Guild of Northern California, Best in Show at the San Diego Comic-Con, and Best Special Effects in the 48-Hour Film Festival.
Currently, she is designing a line of clothing for BJDs (Ball Jointed Dolls), which will soon be available on the internet. She is also working on a commission art piece with Terri Hardin, and some creatures for an untitled project.
